Biplob: Thomas your English is so good. How did you learn it? বিপ্লব থমাস, তোমার ইংরেজি তো বেশ ভাল। তুমি কি করে শিখেছ?

Thomas: Well, in my country everyone has to take English starting in the first grade. I've been taking English courses for 12 years now. থমাসঃ ও, আমার দেশে প্রত্যেককে প্রথমে গ্রেড থেকে ইংরেজি পড়তে হয়। আমি এ পর্যন্ত ১২ বছর ধরে ইংরেজি পড়ছি।

Biplob: Wow, that's interesting. I remember when we took that trip last year and visited your family. It seemed like there weren't many people that could speak with me in English. বিপ্লব ওহ, তা তো বেশ মজার। আমার মনে পড়ছে গত বছর আমরা যখন বেড়াতে গিয়েছিলাম আর তোমাদের বাড়িতে গেলাম। মনে পরে খুব বোশি লোক ছিলনা যারা আমার সাথে ইংরেজিতে কথা বলেতে পারছিল।

Thomas: Oh, that's because they don't speak English that much. থমাসঃ ওহ, তার কারণ ওরা ইংরেজি বেশি বলে না।

Biplob: But they speak it in school, right? Maybe they just didn't like me so they didn't want to talk to me. বিপ্লব তবে তারা তা স্কুলে বলে থাকে, তাই না? হতে পারে তারা আমাকে পছন্দ করেনি বলেই কথা বলতে চায়নি।

Thomas: No, actually they liked you a lot. They told me they thought you were very nice. They are just shy. They're not use to talking with foreigners. I remember when I first came to the U.S. I was really nervous about speaking with people. থমাসঃ না, আসলে তোমাকে তাদের বেশ পছন্দ হয়েছিল। তারা আমাকে বলেছিল তুমি খুব ভাল। তারা লাজুক। তাদের বিদেশিদের সাথে কথা বলার অভ্যাস নেই। মনে পরে আমি যখন প্রথম আমেরিকায় এসেছিলাম মানুষের সাথে কথা বলতে আমার ভয় হত।

Biplob: I see. I thought there were lots of Americans teaching English in your country. বিপ্লব ও তাই। আমি ভেবেছিলাম, তোমার দেশে অনেক আমেরিকান ইংরেজি শেখাচ্ছে।

Thomas: Yes, that's true. There are probably twice as many now as there were five years ago, but they are mostly in the cities. My family lives in the country. থমাসঃ হ্যাঁ, তা ঠিক। ৫ বছর আগে যত ছিল সম্ভবত: তার দ্বিগুন আছে আজ। তবে অধিকাংশই শহরে আছেন। আমরা গ্রামে থাকি।

Thomas: Do you think you would want to teach someday? I know the schools around my town are looking for teachers, so if you want I can call them and get more information. থমাসঃ তোমার কি মনে হয় তুমি কোনোদিন শেখাবে? আমি জানি আমার শহরের স্কুলগুলো শিক্ষক খুঁজছে, তাই তুমি যদি চাও তাহলে আমি তাদের ফোন করে আরও বিস্তারিত জানতে পারি।

Biplob: No, I don't think so. I would need to stay there for a year, and I don't think I can take that much time off work. বিপ্লব না, আমি তেমন মনে করছি না। আমাকে সেখানে এক বছর থাকতে হবে এবং কাজের থেকে ওত সময় ছুটি পাব বলে মনে হয় না।
